Here is how your health can benefit from the right dental treatment

Relationship of Gum Disease/Gingivitis with Diabetes, Heart disease, Arthritis & Pancreatic cancer:

Many research studies in the past have shown that people with diabetes have a higher risk of developing gum disease and losing teeth. But a host of new research has shown that the reverse also holds true. People with gum disease have a much higher risk and incidence of developing type II Diabetes. There is many studies that show treating gum disease to achieve healthy gums, can actually lower one's level of Diabetes and sometimes result in less medication necessary to treat or even reversal of the Diabetes into the safe zone.

It has been shown that gum disease is highly associated with the formation of plaque in the coronary arteries which then can cause heart attacks. This happens through an inflammatory reaction in the walls of the blood vessels of the heart. The exact bacteria that cause gum disease and are found in the plaque that forms on your teeth is also found in the plaque that clogs the heart blood vessels. With 75% of deaths from diabetes being because of coronary artery disease, the importance of maintaining healthy gums becomes a priority.

Gum Disease causes a heightened immune response by your body creating a higher level of inflammation in the blood. This in turn causes the body to turn on itself and attack the joints increasing chances of arthritis.

A recent research team at NYU Medical center discovered a 50% higher chance of Pancreatic Cancer among patients who had present in their saliva  the bacteria P.Gingivalis that is responsible for gingivitis and gum disease.
