What are Dental Implants and Who Needs Them?

Dental implants or endosseous fixtures are surgical devices that connect to the bone of the jaw to support a dental prosthetic such as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthetic, or to serve as an orthodontic anchor.

The process for installing dental implants is called osseointegration and relies on materials like titanium to form a bond to the bone of the jaw. The implant is placed in a way that optimizes the chances of bonding with the bone so that a dental prosthetic can be attached. Healing and osseointegration times will vary from one patient to the next.
